Nowruz Registered in the Vancouver City Calendar

Vancouver City Council Canada registered Nowruz in the city’s official calendar.

Nowruz is a celebration of the vernal equinox and the beginning of the new year for millions of people around the world, especially Iranians, which is celebrated in many countries around the world, from Eastern Europe to Central and South Asia and even Africa. Nowruz, the first day of the solar year; It was included in the Vancouver Canadian calendar to recognize the spiritual heritage of Iranians and immigrants celebrating the first day of spring. The Vancouver City Council passed a resolution stating that hundreds of millions of people from 15 countries are celebrating Nowruz, and that the day has been declared an official holiday in more than 10 countries.

It is worth noting that in 2009 the Canadian Parliament passed a bill that officially added Nowruz to the Canadian national calendar. The province of British Columbia also declared March 20 as “Nowruz Day” in this province.

Since Canada is a multicultural country, it is natural for it to respect the culture and traditions of immigrants from around the world and to recognize some of them. This makes immigrants in Canada feel good about their second home.

According to the decree, on March 20, the city of Vancouver will be given to the Iranian community living in Canada to hold their celebration, which will be attended by the mayor and members of the city council.

Nowruz dates back to ancient Iran and still has a special place among Iranians, and according to tradition, people in different parts of the Iranian plateau celebrate Nowruz every year. Nowruz coincides with the beginning of spring and the flowering of nature. Nowruz is celebrated in Iran and Afghanistan as the beginning of the new year, and people in many other Asian countries such as Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Syria and Turkey, as well as East Asian countries such as India, China and Pakistan celebrates it
